Does God Move Through Secular Artists?

Historically speaking I have always approached "popular" music with some element of caution and simply no desire to expand my horizons in this particular direction. Yes I have listened to way more country music than I ever bargained for Ranch & Home but that in general is beside the point. Until this morning when the Pastor of the church I attend took the congregation through a cultural analysis of American Pie, a popular song from the 1970's that has had an impact on many people's thinking way beyond its release. This was a very similar process that I had learned from College in regards to interpreting classical music, but this time looking for cultural metaphors in American Pie. His point? As a lead in to the National Day of Prayer coming up May 6th, and the warnings about our society that were coming even from the 1970's and where might we be today in need of prayer?
